What does this result pattern suggest?
These are possible explanations, not conclusions from a score. Compare the student’s independent work with a changed question before deciding which explanation fits.

What I would do next
After a disappointing prelim, I would take two or three lost-mark questions to the teacher and ask which explanation above best fits the working. A prelim percentage alone cannot identify the next task or predict the eventual O-Level grade.
In the final weeks, I would replace one repeated practice set with a task that tests that explanation: an unlabelled mixed set, a prerequisite in isolation, or a timed section. If the student is already accurate on unfamiliar mixed work, repeating basics adds little information; a harder transfer question is the more useful test.
