Check the exact Higher Nitec route

MOE’s 2026 JAE guidance for two-year Higher Nitec requires applicants to have sat at least five O-Level subjects over no more than two years and meet the course’s minimum entry requirements. Course aggregate types differ. This is not a blanket rule for every ITE programme or intake.

Start with the practical work

Choose a field your child wants to understand and read the actual course outline. Ask what students make, service, analyse or practise in a typical week, and how the practical work connects with classroom learning.

Check which campus teaches the course. Ask about equipment, clothing, travel and any course-specific requirements directly with ITE before assuming the same arrangements apply everywhere.

Discuss progression without making promises

If your child wants further study, ask which progression routes are relevant to this exact qualification and what grades or other conditions apply. Record the source and intake year.

Do not describe progression to a diploma as automatic. A useful plan includes the skills to develop during the course and alternatives if a later application is unsuccessful. Let your child’s interest in the work guide the discussion.

Before submitting an application

Confirm the qualification name, course code, campus, duration and admissions exercise on the official course page. Check any offer already held and what action its conditions require.

If you are unsure which exercise applies, take the results and questions to an ECG counsellor or ITE admissions. Avoid using a polytechnic score rule to judge ITE eligibility; inspect the course-specific requirements instead.

Check the admission year

Admission year is the year of entry, not the year of the examination. These notes were verified on 2026-09-09.

2028 onward · SEC cohort

MOE has announced PSE from 2028, following the first SEC examination in 2027. Use the rules for your admission year; do not carry older JAE calculations forward.
