Choose a JC around the subjects your child wants to study.

Can the college support the subject combination and daily routine your child needs?

Start with the subjects, then compare colleges. A school’s name or an old score range cannot tell you whether the intended combination is available to your child.

Shortlist by subject combination first

Write down a preferred combination and an acceptable alternative. Read each college’s subject prerequisites, selection conditions and any restrictions attached to the admission course.

Ask whether a listed subject is guaranteed to run and what happens if demand is low. If a university direction matters, verify its prerequisites separately before committing to the combination.

Separate three different questions

“Am I eligible to apply?”, “Will I be posted?” and “Can I take this subject combination?” are different questions. Keep a separate note and an official source for each.

When comparing historical ranges, record the year, programme and aggregate type beside the number. Do not mix gross and net scores or treat an earlier range as the next intake’s requirement. No score prediction is needed to start researching subjects and travel.

Check the ordinary week

Try the school journey at the time your child would travel. Ask about start times, CCA commitments, consultation arrangements and access to study space. A manageable commute can matter more to your family than a small difference in an old range.

At an open house, ask a subject teacher what new students find difficult and what preparation helps. Bring specific questions about the proposed combination.

Compare its combination rules with the official pages of other colleges on your shortlist. The useful outcome is a reasoned choice and a list of resolved questions.

Check the admission year

Admission year is the year of entry, not the year of the examination. These notes were verified on 2026-09-09.
