Build a comparison your child can explain

Ask your child to identify two compulsory modules they want to study and one they expect to find difficult. Find a second course in a similar field and repeat the exercise.

Compare the actual content rather than which title sounds newer. Ask the course team how beginners are supported, how much work is individual or collaborative and what students must complete before later options become available.

Check campus life and practical costs

Try the trip to the Dover Road campus. Include the walking and waiting time your child would experience on a normal school day.

Ask about the notebook specification for the exact course, software, other equipment and financial support. Check current fees for your child’s citizenship and circumstances through SP, rather than assuming a single quoted tuition figure covers every student.

Leave the open house with resolved questions

Keep separate notes for curriculum, admissions and optional opportunities. A general presentation may introduce the school, but a course adviser can address a specific subject requirement or module question.

Before shortlisting, ask your child to explain what the diploma will involve beyond its title. If the answer remains vague, read a sample project description and ask what students actually contributed to it. A clear reason to study the course is more useful than a campus preference alone.

Admission year is the year of entry, not the year of the examination. These notes were verified on 2026-09-09.
